The Bookkeeper is responsible for supporting the financial operations of Dakota Energy Cooperative, Inc. by performing a variety of accounting tasks, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and assisting with audits and budgeting processes. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data consistent with approved and prescribed (by RUS) accounting practices and procedures.

- • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, actively seeking opportunities for professional development and improved departmental effectiveness.
- • Supports timekeeping and payroll processes across departments, including data entry, validation, and reporting. • Assists with payroll processing, tax filings, and maintenance of payroll-related data and accruals.
- • Participate in accounts payable activities, including invoice verification, vendor management, and payment processing.
- Supports capital credit processing and related financial activities.
- Coordinates bank deposits and reconciliations.
- Prepares and posts journal entries and assists with subsidiary invoicing and reporting.
- Contributes to tax reporting, including sales, use, and excise taxes.
- Verifies account balances and ensures proper recording of asset disposals and inventory transactions.
- Assists with monthly financial reporting and closing procedures.
- Prepares documentation and reports for annual audits and external reviews.
- Participates in internal meetings and contributes to communication and customer service efforts.
- Collaborates with team members and leadership to ensure smooth workflow and operational efficiency.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support organizational goals and initiatives.
Qualifications •
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred. (Utility or cooperative experience is a plus)
- Must be familiar with computers and software programs.
- Ability to trace sources and solutions to various types of problems.
- Proficient with keyboard and calculator.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to maintain an appearance that projects a professional and positive image for Dakota Energy.
- Ability to multitask effectively while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to effectively deal with both internal and external customers.
- Ability to build and maintain positive public relations for the Cooperative.
